There are several Disney songs that contain the theme that work is more fun when you do it to music. For example....
If this daydream came true, I fear it will look less like a Disney movie and more like Marshall on HIMYM:
There have been several tasks that I know are predictably a fight with Sera. Getting her into the car seat, she sometimes stiffens her body like a board so I can't snap her in.
When we go to change a diaper, her arms will go limp sometimes when I pick her up to put her on the changing table. She will inevitably say "Noooo" when it comes time to get into jammies (because she knows jammies mean an imminent bedtime). One day, it dawned on me. I had an epiphany! Everything is more fun with song. So, in the past 6 months, I have begun to sing several "working" songs to Sera. The songs are usually to a tune she knows, but with task-related changes to the lyrics. What I found is that Sera is MUCH more compliant when I present a task in song.
For example, getting into the car seat, we sing to the tune of "Baby's wearing a red hat." (how cute is that kid?)
Sera sits in the car seat
Car seat, car seat
Sera sits in the car seat
All ride long
Sera likes the independence of brushing her teeth, but then she won't stop, so we sing to the tune of the William Tell Overture/Lone Ranger theme.
Put it back! Put it back!
Put your toothbrush back
Put it back! Put it back!
Put your toothbrush back
Put it back! Put it back!
Put your toothbrush back
Put it BAAAAAACK!
Put your toothbrush back!
You would think that Sera would like the feeling of a fresh diaper, but getting her to participate in a diaper change was sometimes a fight. So.....(to the tune of London Bridge)
Sera needs a diaper change
Diaper change
Diaper change
Sera needs a diaper change
She's all poopy
(this one is fun because I sing "poopy")
At the end of the night, when its time to get into PJs, we now sing:
It's Peanut Butter Jammie Time!
It's Peanut Butter Jammie Time!
(okay, that one was effortless. The only thing I did was change Jelly to Jammie. But Sera will literally dance while she's walking down the hall to her room. "Do the peanut butter jammie with a baseball bat" is her absolute favorite part)
And now that Sera is becoming obsessed with princesses, Frozen, and the "'Noman song," I am thinking of making bath time more fun with:
Do you want to take a bath now?
(The rest is still in progress. I'll take suggestions)
I just hope she doesn't expect a song for every non-fun activity. I don't want her to be 16 and expect me to sing the "College is fun" song.
