I have admitted before that I do not practice what I teach. I do not take full advantage of the excellent social support that is available to us. It is not because I dislike people. It is not because I feel that I am a rock. It is because I am concerned about compassion fatigue. Based upon the statements and behaviors from our friends, it seems that we have become those downer people. You know the type? The ones you avoid because you feel emotionally exhausted after talking to them because they seem to do nothing but complain? I recognize that. I understand that things have not been going well for us recently. I realize that we do complain quite a bit. But we complain because bad things keep happening and because we want the support. However, we have adapted the unhealthy practice of laughing it off, putting on an act, and saying that everything is "fine" for the sake of others. But honestly, our household really needs a win right now.
