Since its been a week since I last updated everyone, I wanted to blog again.
Our home study remains in progress. The Hague home study requires a lot more detailed information and is quite specific about how this information should be gathered and written. Our home study worker emailed earlier in the week, asking for financial information. Apparently, our pay stubs are no longer sufficient. She now needs W-2s, investment statements, bank statements, utility bills, credit card bills, insurance receipts, and other expenses. It is quite sad to look at a spreadsheet which details the money you have coming in and going out. To get this information to her as quickly as possible, I had to scan all these documents. It is
There is a possibility that we could go through this lengthy home study process only to discover that we have to do it again (starting from scratch). The CCAA (the organization that handles adoption in China) is now requiring that home studies be completed by agencies which have "passed Hague accreditation or COA Child and Family authenticity." Since we started with Ethiopia (a non-Hague country), we didn't look for a Hague accreditted home study agency. Now that we are going with China, IFS has agreed to "supervise" our home study. I am hoping that supervising will be sufficient, but I am concerned that they will nit-pick our home study and make us start over. To protect the welfare of the children, China and other countries are quite strict with their rules and you have to dot every i and cross every t. So, for now, we're going to go with the home study as is and if we have to redo it, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Although, it will hurt to redo it (to the tune of $2500 and wasting $1750).
I won't lie. This is an expensive process and I am thankful for my mom and dad in helping us. But it will be worth every penny in the end. That reminds me.....as an aside. I opened a cafepress shop years ago for IVF/infertility and this onesie is one of my biggest sellers (making probably a whopping $75 over the years). Maybe I need to make an adoption one. I also like this one.
At this time, it feels like I am pushing paper around just so I feel like I'm busy. However, on the plus side (and speaking of paper pushing), I disovered that IFS takes care of all the authenticating of our documents (the four gazillion stamping process). Yeah! One less frustration! Gotta love the small victories.
